New Tire on the FZ8 – Bridgestone S20 EVO

What’s up everyone? How have you been?

It’s been a while since the last post… 2 months ago, I finally got a new tire! I’ve chosen the Bridgestone Battlax S20 EVO for the new tire, but only got the rear. I know, I know…. Let me explain!

When I got the FZ8, it came with Bridgestone Battlax BT-021. I really like Bridgestone, so I was quite confident I would keep it, although they look awful on the bike.

When I got the bike, I rode it daily, no matter what weather conditions. In dry conditions, the BT-021 worked good enough but I got a bit of wheel spin sometimes. But, in cold and wet conditions, I think those tires are really bad… I struggled a lot to put some temperature on them and, when I did, it would take 1 or 2 red lights to make them too cold again.

And the front tire… I never got confident on the wet and it scared the crap out of me a bunch of times. So, you must must be wondering: “Why the hell did you only got a new tire on the rear?!”

Well, you might have seen the Parts & Gear post I recently made, where I say I was considering Bridgestone’s Battlax S20 EVO or Pirelli’s Diablo Rosso II.

While getting some quotes, I concluded that the Pirelli tires were a lot more expensive than Bridgestone around here. That, plus the fact that I prefer the S20 design, made my mind clear and I decided the S20 EVO was going to be the new tire to go with.

Although I love it, it’s still an expensive tire and at the moment I couldn’t justify the investment of getting rid of a very much new front tire. I pushed it as far as I could but eventually the rear completely went and the front was well above average. That’s why I only got the rear.

I’m loving it! The grip level is amazing and in the wet it gives me confidence! (although limited as I still have that piece of plastic in the front…) I also like the way it looks on the bike as I think it’s a better match to the FZ8 than the BT-021.

The MSRP is about 230,00€ and they offer the labor, but I’m pretty sure I’ll go with the S20 EVO again when the front tire goes.
